European colonialism enforced the idea that white skin, features, and hair are ideal. Today, many of us still struggle with this false narrative. Colorism is discrimination towards individuals with dark skin whilst favoring individuals with light skin. Featurism is discrimination towards individuals who do not have eurocentric features whilst favoring individuals with eurocentric features. Texturism is discrimination towards people who have very curly or Afro-textured hair, whilst favoring individuals with straight hair or loose curls.

All of these forms of discrimination go beyond beauty. They can have extremely detrimental impacts on access to education, access to work, access to healthcare, run-ins with the criminal justice system, and personal relationships. White beauty often comes with white privilege. Colorism, featurism, and texturism harm the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing of those on the receiving end of it.

This innovative wellness course helps individuals unlearn and heal from The Big 3: Colorism, Featurism & Texturism. Welcome home.

This course has a simplistic yet individualized approach and I feel that I took away an abundance from the short time I spent with it. I believe it could have a relatively effective hand in changing the toxic beauty standards that are currently rooted in many of society's members. It includes several different approaches to the material so I'd imagine it can cater to any course-taker with any learning style; and whether that person is someone trying to unlearn for their own well-being or someone who wants to learn to correct the colorist, featurist, or texturist thoughts that they may have (with or without realizing it). For me, it opened my mind up to how systemic racism has branches that are deeply rooted in just about every corner of this world. There are aspects of its harm that I and many others don't even recognize because of how entrenched it is in daily life. That said, I definitely recommend the course and believe it offers one benefit or another to anyone who takes it.
